The MAKO Foundation is a 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation focused on raising funds for Vista del Mar Elementary and Middle schools.
The MAKO Foundation runs a yearly membership campaign focused on attracting parents to join The Foundation. Additionally, The Foundation also seeks sponsors for the "Wall of Giving", which is a program targeted toward businesses and families that give at the benefactor level. These benefactors receive a coveted plaque on the "Wall of Giving" in the multipurpose room. The Foundation also holds two major fundraising events during the year. This year, The Foundation launched a new and innovative way to give: the Wish List which can be found by Clicking Here. This program allows families and businesses in the community to sponsor/fund specific items identified by the faculty that would not normally be funded. These include items such as scanners, speakers for computers, audio visual equipment, PE Equipment, special books etc. Click Here for information on How to Donate and Click Here for a list of our current Sponsors.
The Foundation is a special and unique way to raise funds for our school. The foundation works closely with PTA and the principals to identify major shortfalls in the school’s budget. It helps provide programs and items that would otherwise go unfunded. It helps to provide for the best possible education for our children.
The Foundation works together with the PTA and the principals to selectively fill the gaps and needs of the facilities and the students. The Foundation, unlike the PTA, is a 501.3c nonprofit corporation that reports directly to the IRS. The by-laws for the foundation allow for greater flexibility and future planning.
The MAKO Foundation has a six person board that votes. A formal grant process is in place to identify the program or items needed. Teachers submit grants to the board with supporting information. The grant is voted on during monthly meetings throughout the year. The grant requires a majority vote to pass. Once the grant is voted on, the item is funded or denied.
The MAKO Foundation worked closely with the principals to identify the 2008/2009 targeted needs. The foundation funded over $50,000 for:
